Rezoning Update May 18, 2006

Rezoning Application was denied.

During the May 2nd meeting of the Gwinnett County Planning Commission, the attorney for the applicant who wished to put a Gas Station at the corner of Old Fountain and Old Peachtree asked that the application be "denied" by the commission!

This is a great victory for Turtle Creek and for the residents our surrounding communities. In speaking to Commissioners Warbington and Cantrell, they informed me that they were unwilling to table the application a second time and in the face of documented public opposition, the applicant had no choice but to back down on his proposal. Thank you to everyone that joined the board in opposition to the application and I hope you join us in thanking Commissioners Warbington and Cantrell for listening and responding to the desires of those they represent.

There is power in numbers and if any resident happens to come across a proposal similar to this one that may degrade our neighborhood, please bring it to the attention of the board.

A developer has requested a rezoning of over an acre of residential zoned property at the corner of Old Peachtree and Old Fountain to put in a Gas Station. A meeting of the Gwinnett County Planning Commission is set for TUESDAY, APRIL 18 at 7:00 PM in the Gwinnett Justice & Administration Center auditorium to hear the application.  The Turtle Creek Board would like to ask all concerned residents to attend this meeting and voice your opinion on the matter.  The developer’s argument is to increase the tax base and to make getting gas more convenient.  The impact may be far different for those who appreciate their property values, traffic flow, road conditions and the quality of life we all enjoy.  Please review the attached application for all the details on this proposal.  If you would like to express your opinion on this matter but are unable to attend the meeting in person, please send an e-mail to the Planning Commissioners for District 3 at chuck@gwinnettvillage.com  (Chuck Warbington) and teresa.cantrell@gwinnettcounty.com (Teresa Cantrell) and a “cc” to president@turtlecreek-hoa.com so I can make sure your voice is represented
